As a young adult Philip had the opportunity to work as a woodworker and carpenter, which gave him a deep understanding of building tectonics. During his academic career, Philip augmented this skill set by developing an architectural language that is driven by concept while maintaining an awareness of constructability. Philip has worked on projects within the athletic, community, commercial, and residential sectors and has worked for architecture studios in both Philadelphia and New York.
Philip holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, and a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design.
Philip currently lives in Brooklyn.

KEIO UNIVERSITY: learning/teaching architecture in japan
keio university's architecture program is probably the best kept secret in the country. Hidden away on a campus an hour from tokyo the curriculum is wide open and connected to a campus-wide project aimed at dealing with climate change and innovation. students of economics can take courses in architecture and vice versa but we all are expected to take part in real projects somewhere in the world. there are a few starchitects on the faculty but mostly we are focused on making a difference.

A New Norris House: Phase IV: Live-In Evaluation and Monitoring of a design/build effort
The New Norris House is a design/build effort from the University of Tennessee's College of Architecture and Design. Began in 2009, the home was designed and built by UT students in collaboration with Clayton Homes. The built project is now complete and the final phase of the project has begun. A team of 4 people (2 living in the home, and 2 graduate researchers) will rigorously document the experience via qualitative assessments and quantitative measurements, posting results to this blog.
Gender and Design Leadership, Aug 17, '11
Women in the architecture workplace is, oddly, a subject that does not receive a lot of press. Perhaps it is because from the time of school onward, women in the field are indoctrinated into being either as “hard,” “iron-like” or on a practical level, unbathed and unhygienic, as their male counterparts in order to...
The Ideal Firm’s Profile, Aug 5, '11
In publications such as The Atlantic Monthly and The Economist, articles have heralded a new economic era. An era that demands that business be done differently in order to survive not only the continuing recession but to create a new, more agile business model. As many economists have asserted, the...
A Macro Look at Unemployment and the Economy, Jun 3, '11
Different approaches to alleviate the Great Recession’s intransigence have been suggested. Repeatedly, policy approaches have been examined, only to be jettisoned, based on whether they concur with their own political ideologies. To combat this, we examine a few academic studies that offer views...
